Ik kwam vandaag een prachtig citaat tegen van Stephen King over horror en dacht dit wil ik met jullie delen.
Hebben jullie ook mooie citaten van schrijvers? Deel ze hier!
Stephen King: “I recognize terror as the finest emotion and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I’ll go for the gross-out. I’m not proud.”

Bovenstaand King-citaat komt trouwens uit zijn prachtige non-fictieboek Danse Macabre, een aanrader voor iedereen die oprecht geïnteresseerd is in het horrorgenre. King ontpopt zich hier niet alleen als kenner, maar ook en vooral als liefhebber die ruimdenkend genoeg is om in zijn lijstjes van favoriete films en boeken naast de klassiekers ook werk van minder voor de hand liggende namen als Ingmar Bergman, Luis Buñuel en Richard Adams te noemen. Over de veelbesproken verschillen tussen genres als horror, fantasy en sf heeft hij het volgende te melden (speciaal voor alle genre-puristen 😀 ) :

^^Overigens wel aan te bevelen de Engelse versie ervan te lezen (voor zij die het Engels machtig zijn), want de Nederlandse vertaling is niet best…

Als Stephen King fan sinds mijn 13e heb ik alles van de beste man gelezen. Alles, behalve Danse Macabre… Ooit geprobeerd maar kwam er toen niet doorheen. Dat is wel al een hele tijd geleden dus misschien maar eens een nieuwe poging wagen. Heb hem wel gewoon in de kast staan…
Like I said, de Nederlandse vertaling is niet best (met momenten nagenoeg onleesbaar zelfs), dus weet niet welke je in de kast hebt staan…..

Een van de leukste citaten die ik ooit ben tegengekomen, blijkt ook nog eens van een schrijver te zijn ^^ (ik dacht dat ie van Einstein was…)
